FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions
What is a short haul move? This is a move that is less than 450 miles. Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves.
What is a local move? This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state.
What is an intrastate move? This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state.
Are movers able to transport my pets? No, moving trucks are not properly equipped to transport pets and the box can be dangerous because of heavy objects. If possible, keep your pets at a friend, family member’s or kennel during the day of your move.
Do you have any tips to help my move go more smoothly? We suggest making a detailed checklist of all the tasks you need to complete before your move. Separate the checklist into things to take care of a few months before the move, 1 month before, 1 week before and then on your actual moving day. A checklist will minimize the risk of you forgetting to take care of an important detail.
What is a re-weigh? Depending on the type of estimate you obtained, your goods may be re-weighed once they have been loaded on to the moving truck or van. In this case, your moving charges will be based on the re-weighed amount.
What should I do with essential items I need on my moving day? We recommend that you transport any essentials such as bed linens, towels, toilet paper, cosmetics, toiletries and medication in your own vehicle. If this isn’t possible, clearly mark these boxes and make sure your movers place them in a specific place at your destination.
What is long carry? You may be charged an additional fee if the moving van can’t come within a certain distance from the entrance of your destination. This is generally 75 feet, but you need to check with your particular moving company.
What is a binding estimate? This guarantees the exact cost of the move based on any services requested or deemed necessary at the time of the estimate. Additional services that are requested or required such as shuttle service, additional packing or adding items will be added to the cost of the estimate.
What is hoisting? Certain large awkward items such as wall units or pianos may have to be hoisted out of a window instead of being carried down a flight of stairs. Check with your moving company about the availability and cost of this service.
Can I ask my movers to place the furniture where I want in my home? Most movers will place the furniture where you would like. However, you need to remember that you are being charged per hour so decide where you would like the furniture to go beforehand.
